Press ignores facts about heterosexual predators

Washington, DC, USA. How is it the press automatically links child predators to homosexuality? Former U.S. Representative Mark Adam Foley (R) resigned from the U.S. House of Representatives.

He did so following allegations he sent sexually suggestive e-mails and instant messages to an 18-year-old male who had once served as a Congressional page.

Foley represented the 16th District of Florida from 1995 until 2006 and served as the co-chair of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children.

Foley's resignation took place on September 29, 2006, but the aftermath will last clear through the November elections. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) have opened investigations that could lead to criminal charges.

This is what we know about former Congressman Mark Foley:

He is a pedophile with a preference for boys;

He was the Republican point man on fighting sexual predators;

He claims to be an alcoholic;
He claims to be gay.

This is what we don’t know about Mark Foley:

How long he has been a sexual predator;
The number of victims with whom he has had sex;
Whether he is heterosexual, homosexual, or bi-sexual.

This is what we know about sexual predators:

A 1994 study published in Pediatrics, a peer-reviewed journal, reviewed the cases of 269 sexually abused children seen at Denver Children’s Hospital over one year.

The majority (82%) of the children were suspected of being abused by a man or a woman who was, or had been, in a heterosexual relationship with a relative of the child. A child's risk of being molested by a relative's heterosexual partner is over 100 times greater than by someone who might be identifiable as being homosexual, lesbian, or bisexual.
