Global Warning: Lisa Jain Thompson
Springfield, VA, USA. The third millennium has been marked by a mysterious and puzzling phenomenon, “an enormous thing,” occasionally phosphorescent with exaggerated opinions set down as a mile in width and three in length, far surpassing all the collected wisdom of the ages, if not the Royal Library of Alexandria.  We understand the excitement produced in the entire world by this mysterious object once known as a blog, but now, collectively, as the blatherosphere, able to send loud hissing noises a hundred, two hundred feet into the air, drowning out all attempts at intelligent conversation it comes in contact with.

That the blatherosphere exists is an undeniable fact.  Here, at TS-Si we often find ourselves an angry topic among the blatherospherers. We hear their deep anguished cries — sometimes we listen, sometimes our friends tell us. TS-Si knows what lurks in the dark heart of the blatherosphere.

Hell, some times they just blurt out what they are the thinking (self-control seemingly a cardinal sin among blatherospherers):
what kin of wacky blog is this ??? some ugly old separatist hag lik [name*] cums on with hate and bile and everbody applauds not me you set us back with yr stupid blog

ok yr bodi id fucked but it is worse you have no brain move away and let the smart people run this thng an maybe we will get our rights jerk
If we subtract the profanity, the slanted diction, and the name calling, we end up with
what kin of       blog is this ??? some               lik [name*]     on with      and    and everbody applauds not me you set us back with yr        blog

ok yr     id         but it is worse you have          move away and let the smart people run this thng an maybe we will get our rights
Which still contains innumerable misspellings, grammatical errors, and chat room colloquiums (and all the signs of the writer having been an early drop out from the educational system).

I suppose this blatherospherer thinks he is being hip or cool (or whatever the current terminology is in Los Angeles) but mostly he is just another guy jerking off unintelligibly, so self-centered and insular (caught up his little piece of the blatherosphere), he doesn’t know the difference between a science and news site (TS-Si.org) and the blogs of his like thinking blatherospheroids.

Probably doesn’t even notice amidst all his shouting that we use standard English and spell our words correctly most times.

But, we should give him a break: he’s only repeating what he’s learned on the crossdresser blogs from the same people who invaded the Undernet and turned it into a billboard for male oriented hard core pornography and come-ons for the chicks with dicks on Seventh Avenue.  Only now they have invaded the world known as Transgender and want expand their domain to Transsexuality (Ah, but we fooled them: we, the Post-ops, have taken control of our own lives and defined Harry Benjamin Syndrome (HBS) ourselves with no room in the definition for cross-dressers, transvestites, gender queers, or Undernet pornographers and sexual predators).

He isn’t alone in the Blatherosphere, we are spoken of regularly in somewhat less than friendly terms, sometimes with biblical overtones (on one of the TS-Si.org opinion columns):
Did she regret the poison her words have caused to be spilled by all sides in this "debate"? She's still posting it wherever she can, hoping to troll even more poor souls into its web of cancerous hatred. The pain and anger she has triggered doesn't bother her.
When we asked the writer to be substantive, on topic, and give examples of the poison, the cancerous hatred, the triggered pain and anger so that a discussion of the issue could ensue, this person (who uses a server in Europe), wrote back angrily
Tell me how your message is not a message of hatred- tell me how you preach the gospel of love and work to bring peace and unity, to bring people together instead of pulling them apart and feeding their tormented souls to the demons spewing forth from yours. I'm waiting.
Demanding that we be drawn into an adolescent flame war and respond to charges for which he offers no evidence.  This is the blatherospherers’ favorite weapon: descending in hordes in sound and fury hoping to distract that they have no real questions, no intellectual content, only a rabid, desperate need for random destruction and self-immolation.

Then, of course, we get the rants of the closeted transvestites, claiming to be non-op transsexuals (those men! Invading someone else’s space again) and denouncing HBS women, especially post-ops
it character that counts. I can pick and choose when I play different parts. I am in reality. You full-time trannies live in a dressup dream world. Study autogynefiliacs who slice and dice to feed their fantasies.
This blatherospheroid desperation to be validated, even at the expense of those born with a medical condition, is typical of the blogs which are dominated by male cross-dressers and transvestites.  They are better than HBS women because they are only part-time hobbyist women who jerk off with their penis as they fantasize about being forced to have sex with a man.

I love the cross-dressing blatherospherers’ conceit: a transgender person who, although physically male in all parts with all the original manufacturer equipment including a penis, believes that he is a woman because he dresses and presents as a woman.  This is the essence of transgender conceptualization.

But, outside of the transgender blatherosphere, the comments about TS-Si are fairly encouraging.  This is one of them.
Your execution amazes me with each turn of the page. Your science articles are a model of relevance, organization, and precision presented with a clarity of exposition that is all too rare. So much on the internet is of such low quality that I have learned to ignore most reports.

This site [TS-Si] is different. In fact, it is very different. Your selection of particular research reports, and placing them in context, while accurately examining the work, provides a necessary counterbalance to the popular press and (especially) television. I know that your articles highlighting the work in my field have stirred up attention.

My lab places a high premium on clear communication with the general public. This is a faculty requirement I insist on from our research assistants and senior staff. Some time ago, one of my post-docs, a young woman of considerable ability, showed me a report from your website and asked for my opinion. To abbreviate the story, we now direct students to your website, citing it as a resource for pointers on writing and research focus.
But, then again, what can you expect, he's not part of the transgender blatherosphere.
